Responsibilities
The Saratoga County Department of Health seeks an experienced candidate for a full-time Epidemiologist. The successful candidate should have Considerable knowledge of statistics and statistical analysis and the ability to utilize related computer applications and software, especially those utilized by New York State Department of Health. The future incumbent should have thorough knowledge of the principles, methods, and procedures of epidemiological investigation, and knowledge of infectious diseases, chronic diseases, and environmental sciences.
This is professional level work involving responsibility for epidemiological investigations, surveillance, prevention and studies; Collects, organizes, and analyzes epidemiological data; Work is performed under general supervision of the Supervising Epidemiologist with leeway allowed in the exercise of independent judgement in carrying out established policy and procedures; performs related duties as needed.
Typical Work Activities (*Illustrative)
• Maintains an effective epidemiological surveillance and control program in the areas of infectious diseases, chronic diseases and environmental conditions;
• Collects epidemiological data on infections and chronic diseases and environmental conditions;
• Organizes surveillance, investigation and control related data enabling the identification of patterns locally and in comparison, with regional, state, and national data;
• Participates in the conduct of studies to detect health problems in populations and formulates and tests hypotheses concerning causative agents;
• Prepares statistical and other reports;
• Participates in inter-agency collaboration with organizations in the pursuit of epidemiological information.

Minimum Qualification
A) Possession of a Doctoral degree in public health, epidemiology or biostatistics from an accredited college or university, with a concentration in epidemiology or biostatistics, and one (1) year of satisfactory experience conducting an epidemiological surveillance and control program or data analysis in the areas of infectious diseases, chronic diseases and environmental conditions. OR;
B) Possession of a Master’s degree in public health (or equivalent degree) from an accredited college or university, with a concentration in epidemiology or biostatistics; and one (1) year of satisfactory experience conducting an epidemiological surveillance and control program or data analysis in the area of infectious diseases, chronic diseases or environmental conditions; OR;
C) Possession of a Bachelor’s degree, and continuing Certification in Infection Control and Epidemiology issued by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc.
Special Requirement
Candidate must possess, and maintain, a clear and valid New York State Driver’s License appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated, in meeting the necessary transportation needs of the job.
Salary: $82,443 - $105,790* (*Based on years of service employed with Saratoga County)
