Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY:
This administrative public health position performs both medical and administrative duties for the Monroe County
Department of Public Health. The medical responsibilities include, but are not limited to; establishment and
periodic review of health and medical policies, conduct of epidemiologic investigations, provision of advice and
consultation to practicing physicians and others within the community relative to management of cases of public
health importance and supervising the work of other physicians within the department. Administrative
responsibilities consist of acting for, and in place of the Commissioner of Public Health in all matters of public
health administration. The work is performed in accordance with the general policies and objectives prescribed by
the Commissioner of Public Health and with applicable state and local health program areas, including, but not
limited to, emergency preparedness, environmental health, epidemiology and disease control, nursing services
including its clinics, special children’s services, vital records, emergency medical services, related grants, and the
Medical Examiner’s Office. General supervision is exercised over staff of administrative, technical, medical, and
clerical personnel. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the
Commissioner of Public Health. Does related work as required.

Minimum Qualification

Applicants must be physicians licensed to practice medicine at the time of appointment and be registered to practice medicine in New York State within three (3) months of appointment plus EITHER:

(A) Certification or eligibility* for certification by the American Board of Preventive Medicine; OR,

(B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Master’s degree in Public Health or a closely related field; OR,

(C) Certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) as a Diplomate in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Geriatrics, Family Medicine or one of their respective subspecialties plus two (2) years paid full time or its part-time equivalent experience in supervision, management, research or practice in one of the  following areas: communicable disease control, chronic disease control, epidemiology or general public
health.

* Eligibility for certification is completion of residency and pending Board certification exam.

Special Requirement

Must be registered to practice medicine in New York State within three (3) months of appointment or be separated from the position.

This position is subject to a background check for criminal convictions. Convictions will be considered but will not automatically disqualify the candidate. No criminal background check will occur until after a conditional offer of employment has been made, unless required prior to a conditional offer because of the nature of the position or otherwise required by law.

Candidates for employment with Monroe County Government will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test. Failure to meet the standards may result in disqualification.

If you are appointed, you will be required to possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State or otherwise demonstrate your capacity to meet the transportation needs of the position.

Salary: $150,453 - $208,262 annually
