Responsibilities

This is a professional and scientific position in the specialized field of forensic pathology responsible for investigating deaths, performing autopsies, conducting pathological and toxicological analyses, and assisting the Medical Examiner with duties as assigned. Duties involve responding to emergencies at a variety of hours and locations. Must meet the special requirements listed below or otherwise be separated from the position. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the Medical Examiner or other higher level staff member. General supervision is exercised over subordinate personnel. Does related work as required.

Minimum Qualification

Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Doctor of Medicine degree, completion of a residency in pathology and a fellowship in forensic pathology.

Special Requirement

Eligibility for a license to practice medicine in the State of New York and possession of a valid license within six (6) months of appointment.

Certified by the American Board of Pathology in Forensic Pathology or eligible for certification at the time of appointment. Must possess certification with two (2) years of appointment.

This position is subject to a background check for criminal convictions. Convictions will be considered but will not automatically disqualify the candidate. No criminal background check will occur until after a conditional offer of employment has been made, unless required prior to a conditional offer because of the nature of the position or otherwise required by law.

Candidates for employment with Monroe County Government will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test. Failure to meet the standards may result in disqualification.
If you are appointed, you will be required to possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State or otherwise demonstrate your capacity to meet the transportation needs of the position.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT:
Applicant must be a resident of Monroe County at the time of appointment.

Salary: $156,915 - $217,208 annually
