Responsibilities
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves providing outreach services that are
culturally-sensitive and serve to increase health in ethnically and gender diverse populations of Erie County. Performs tasks necessary to support health equity efforts. The work is performed under the direct supervision of a higher rank professional. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Assists in planning and implementing workshops, forums and discussion groups to promote public health and health education among marginalized populations or within diverse constituencies within Erie County
Schedules and participates in meetings with community agencies regarding the department’s programs and services and other topics as required;
Assists with the preparation of written reports and educational material;
Serves as liaison to community agencies, community members, and department staff on behalf of the department’s programs and services;
Prepares routine correspondence;
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Good knowledge of services and systems as it impacts those who adversely affected by health disparities and the social determinants of health; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with community members and healthcare professionals; working knowledge of the principles and techniques of presenting to the public especially those related to health equity and the social determinants of health; ability to present information to an audience; ability to maintain confidentiality; ability to write and produce high-quality written material using appropriate software programs; initiative; tact; resourcefulness; dependability; capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Minimum Qualification
A) Completion of 60 credit hours from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university and one (1) year of experience in preparing, distributing, and live presentation of outreach materials to the public; or:
B.) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and three (3) years of experience in preparing, distributing, and live presentation of outreach materials to the public; or:
C.) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
Special Requirement
Eligibility for New York State driver’s license required at time of application, with possession of the license mandatory at the time of appointment. This position may require travel, and candidates must demonstrate ability to meet the transportation demands of the job in carrying out their responsibilities in any location to which travel is required, including some locations not accessible by public transportation.
Salary: $23.74/hr. - $29.27/hr.
