REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL NURSE

Steuben County

Posted 10/19/2026

Job Type: Full-time

Responsibilities

Steuben County is seeking a Public Health Nurse to provide skilled nursing care while helping protect and improve the health of individuals, families, and communities across the County.

This is an opportunity for a nurse who wants to use their clinical skills beyond a traditional healthcare setting. Public Health Nurses combine direct patient care with prevention, education, investigation, and community health activities. The work is varied: on a given day, a nurse might provide nursing care and assessments to newborns and their mothers in their homes, investigate a communicable disease or potential health risk, support an immunization clinic, provide health education, or connect an individual or family with needed services.

The role also provides an opportunity to work across disciplines and throughout the community. Public Health Nurses collaborate with physicians, nurses, schools, community organizations, and other professionals; provide education and counseling to individuals and groups; participate in community health planning; and serve as a nursing resource for others working to address local health needs.

Your nursing skills. A broader reach. For a nurse who values variety, this role offers a different way to practice. You’ll still use assessment, clinical judgment, patient education, and nursing skills at the heart of the profession—but you’ll also have the opportunity to look beyond an individual encounter, helping prevent illness, identify health risks, and address conditions affecting the health of the wider community. The work requires independence and professional judgment, including field-based work throughout the County.

Minimum Qualification

Graduation from a school of nursing registered by the State Education Department from a course approved by such department as qualifying for Registered Professional Nurse licensure.

Special Requirement

Possession of a license issued by the State of New York to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse is required for appointment.

Salary: $61,669 - $76,397 annually, depending on experience
