Responsibilities
Provides or exercises leadership in the provision of nursing service necessary to support, maintain, and implement the Agency programs in assigned areas. Works under the supervision of the Supervising Public Health Nurse. May supervise the work of other healthcare staff as related to nursing specific functions.
Program areas assigned may include: Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention, Maternal-Child Health Nursing, Immunization Clinics (Vaccines for Children/ Vaccines for Adults), Rabies Prevention/ Animal Bite Investigations, Communicable Disease Investigations, STI Prevention/ Screening/ Investigation, Tuberculosis Screening & Investigation, Emergency Preparedness, and Community Engagement/ Chronic Disease Prevention.
The Registered Professional Nurse demonstrates:
- Good knowledge of modern principles and practices related to infection control.
- Ability to prepare, analyze, organize, understand and interpret complex oral and/or written instructions, directions, and reports.
- Ability to understand and empathize with the needs and concerns of others.
- Ability to perform duties in accordance with ANA Code for Professional Nurses.
Minimum Qualification
Registered Professional Nurse: Licensure and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in NYS and possession of a valid New York State driver’s license appropriate to the vehicles operated or otherwise demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the job.
Public Health Nurse: In addition to the qualifications for Registered Professional Nurse, the incumbent must possess a bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university. Public Health Nurses shall receive an additional hourly differential of $1.00/ hour.
Additional Information: This is a fully benefited NYSNA union position. The incumbent will receive 5 days of paid vacation upon hire, and 5 additional days after 6 months (10-days in year one, 15 days after one year of service), in addition to 13 paid holidays and 3 paid personal days per year. Full-time employees also earn 1 sick day per month worked. On-call Duties: This position includes on-call duties (from home) outside of normal office hours with additional compensation. On-call duties are rotated among assigned staff.
Salary: 2025 Hourly Rate: $31.28/hr
